LINA HEATON

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Review 11 Feb 1871 p 4

Death of Miss Lina Heaton – death has again shown is fondness for a “Shining mark.” A young lady of rare excellence and sweetness of character has passed away, leaving a numerous circle of friends to mourn her loss. After a lingering and painful illness, from which she was thought to be recovering, Miss Caroline Heaton, daughter of our excellent fellow citizen, Jas. Heaton, was suddenly stricken down again, and after but a few days of extreme suffering, over which she was enabled to triumph by the power of a pure Christian faith, she peacefully fell asleep in the arms of the loved and loving Savior. Although young and fond of life, and surrounded by many warn hearts, and looking forward to a happy bridal and the bliss of a quiet home here, she could give them all up with joy of the home her faith taught her to regard as immortal. Death found her fully prepared. When asked, a few hours before her death by her pastor, if her confidence in Jesus was perfect, her answer was, “Oh, yes!” And with the same emphasis in the same words, she expressed her perfect assurance that He would not forsake her, but would go with her through the dark valley. But a moment before the struggle was over her mother said, “Do you know me, Lina.” She responded, Yes and added, “Where’s father,” and in a moment after he reached her side, she passed sweetly away at a quarter to eight on the evening of the 6th inst, aged 27 years three months and 17 days. - kbz
